The history of Korea Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (KCDC) dates back to 1895 when the Sanitary Commission was founded during the Chosun Dynasty. It changed to Korea National Institute of Health and then to KCDC as it is today.
With the relocation to the city of Osong, the heartland of the Republic of Korea in 2010, KCDC is a part of the Osong Technopolis. The first bio-cluster in Korea holds six health-related government agencies and major pharmacy industries, including Korea National Institute of Health, Korea Food and Drug Administration. As Minister of Health and Welfare, I would like to give my congratulations to KCDC for its new start and the first issue of the Osong Public Health and Research Perspectives.
As premier health administration and research agency, KCDC has conducted numerous researches to produce outcomes and contributed in Korea government’s evidence-based policy decisions. I believe that now is the time to create its own round-about journal to share the experiences with researchers across the world.
The 2009–2010 global H1N1 outbreak highlighted the importance of disease control and international communication. In this context, it is significant for KCDC to publish a new international journal to share the experiences in the field of public health.
I would like to expect the Osong Public Health and Research Perspectives would be actively supported by international researchers to evolve into a significant public health journal.
Finally, I would like to give my sincere thanks to the director and staff at KCDC for their effort to make a successful publication of the journal.
